Elizabeth Rose
My practice discusses the way in which we function within today’s society through my exploration of the figure and in particular through portraiture. Studying and recording the observations I make on a daily basis I produce paintings which make informed comments on modern life, providing for the viewer an insight in to a private life. Using acrylic paint the process through which I produce my work is specifically important to my practice. Through thin washes of colour I gradually build up the form of my subject to a stage where I can then mould the paint on the canvas, producing a particularly recognisable style of painting. Following on from my figurative work, I also study, record and respond to nature making detailed painted studies of singular flowers. From this I then continue to dissect and strip down the information and reinterpret it in to a new arrangement of colours and forms.
